Overview

This report summarizes feedback from five educators who tested Flexi’s beta shortcuts. It highlights strengths, challenges, and actionable recommendations for improving the platform.

Key Takeaways

Most Valued Shortcuts
  • Step-by-Step Solutions: Praised by 4 out of 5 participants, particularly for math-related applications. One teacher noted, 'Students use this most often,' while another highlighted it as a 'great learning tool' when properly supervised.
  • Homework Help: Endorsed by 3 out of 5 participants for its detailed responses. One educator shared, 'This is very helpful, especially when explaining concepts like photosynthesis.' Another noted that adding step-by-step walkthroughs initially would enhance the feature.
  • Learn with Analogy: Found useful by 3 out of 5 educators, especially for guiding students in understanding complex concepts. One teacher observed, 'This tool is very helpful in generating meaningful connections for students.'
  • Quiz Me: This tool was positively mentioned by 3 out of 5 participants. Teachers described it as “awesome to use as a pre or post-lesson” and “very useful for student self-assessment.”

Least Valued Shortcuts
  • Set a Reminder: Marked as "not useful" by 3 out of 5 participants. One educator noted, “Students prefer their phone alarms for reminders.” It was described as unnecessary for classrooms where other reminder and assignment systems are in place.
  • Career Connections: 2 out of 5 educators highlighted its potential for older or more career-focused learners but suggested its application is limited for younger demographics. As one teacher observed, “Students were too young to appreciate this tool.”
  • Language Translation: Translation was noted as potentially valuable for more diverse classrooms. However, 3 out of 5 educators felt the tool lacked value due to the lack of non-English speakers in their classrooms.
    • Editor’s note: While I agree this tool is beneficial to a small segment of the US-based population, students and teachers have highlighted it as having tremendous value.

Suggestions for Improvements From Participants
  • Printable Tools: Printable Tools were a frequent request. One educator stated, 'Quiz Me would be awesome if it were printable,' and another added that study guides could be adapted into guided notes.
  • Refined Analogy Creation: One teacher noted, 'Sometimes the analogies reinforce misconceptions or increase confusion.'
  • Streamlined LMS Integration: Another educator expressed the need for easier navigation, saying, 'Flexi is helpful, but I often lose where to find tools like test-making.' Integrating tools like assignments with external platforms (e.g., Google Classroom) was another recurring request.
    • Editor’s Note: LMS integration issues come up from teachers a lot. Many teachers don’t even know they can use CK-12 outside of Google Classroom and Schoology.
